Accumulation of Paid Time Off (PTO)

The purpose of Paid Time Off, hereinafter known as PTO, is to establish a leave program that allows eligible BOCC employees flexibility in planning for and taking time off. PTO combines personal business or recreation, doctor appointments and unexpected absences such as illness or illness in the family, into a single system that simplifies accountability and tracking. Regular Employees

PTO shall be earned based on the following schedule for regular employees who work 80 hours per pay period with no scheduled overtime.

Less than 5 years of service 192 hours
5-9 years service 216 hours
10-14 years service 240 hours
15-19 years service 264 hours
20 years or more 288 hours

76 Regular Hours + 8 Overtime Hours

PTO shall be earned based on the following schedule for Emergency Services and other employees who work 76 regular hours and 8 scheduled overtime hours per pay period.

10-14 years service 252 hours
15-19 years service 277 hours
20 years or more 302 hours

80 Regular Hours + 32 Overtime Hours

PTO shall be earned based on the following schedule for Emergency Services employees who work 80 regular hours and 32 scheduled overtime hours per pay period.

5-9 years service 302 hours per year
10-14 years service 336 hour per year
15-19 years service 370 hours per year
20 years or more 395 hours per year

106 Regular Hours + 6 Overtime Hours

PTO shall be earned based on the following schedule for Emergency Services employees who work 106 regular hours and 6 scheduled overtime hours per pay period.

15-19 years service 370 hours per year
20 years or more 395 hours per year

Payout of PTO Upon Separation from Employment

In cases of separation from employment with Bay County by voluntary resignation, involuntary reduction in workforce or occupational disability, employees who have successfully completed their probationary period may receive a maximum PTO payout as shown below:

  • Regular employees who work 80 hours per pay period with no scheduled overtime (OT): 240 hours
  • Emergency Services employees who work 76 regular hours and 8 scheduled OT hours per pay period: 252 hours
  • Emergency Services employees who work 106 regular hours and 6 scheduled OT hours per pay period: 336 hours
  • Emergency Services employees who work 80 regular hours and 32 scheduled OT hours per pay period: 336 hours

Bereavement Leave

Up to three consecutive working days are available for any death in the immediate family. This leave will not be charged against the employee's PTO.

Leave Without Pay (LWOP)

Time off without pay for a period of time appropriate to the circumstances. LWOP must be approved, in advance, by the County Manager and is not intended for leisure purposes. Types of Leave without Pay include:

  • Family and Medical Leave
  • Maternity Leave
  • Military Leave

Sick Leave Pool

The sick leave pool allows participating full-time regular employees to pool Paid Time Off (PTO) for use on the depletion of their personally accrued PTO and/or Banked Sick Leave. For more information, please see the Sick Leave Pool Policy (PDF).
