Budget Workshops/MeetingsThe Bay County Board of County Commissioners will hold its final meeting concerning the Fiscal Year 2018 budget at 5:01 p.m. Sept. 19. At its July 18 meeting, the board capped the annual millage rate at 4.4362, a reduction of .2138 mills - 4.6 percent - under the current millage rate of 4.65. All budget workshops/meetings are open to the public and will be held in the Commission Chambers of the Bay County Government Center, located at 840 W. 11th St., Panama City. The meetings will also be broadcast live and archived at www.baycountyfl.gov and will be available for live streaming on Facebook.

FEMA revising flood maps

FEMA revising flood mapsThe Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) is in the process of revising the Flood Insurance Rate Maps, otherwise known as flood maps, for the entire Bay County area. While the dates are subject to change, the public notice and appeal phase is projected to begin in late September. Final adoption of effective maps is currently projected for early 2019. The Northwest Florida Management District is also working as a technical partner with FEMA on this project. Bay County Value Adjustment BoardThe Bay County Value Adjustment Board will hold their 2017 Organizational Meeting on Monday, August 21st, at the Bay County Government Building located at 840 W. 11th Street, Room 1030, Panama City at 9:00 a.m. The public is welcome to attend. NOTICE TO ALL PROPERTY OWNERS AND TAXPAYERS OF BAY COUNTY, FLORIDA PLEASE TAKE NOTICE that the Bay County Value Adjustment Board, in compliance with Section 196.194, Florida Statutes, will meet in the Bay County Government Complex, 840 West 11th Street, Room 1030, Panama City, Florida, on Monday, August 21, 2017, at 9:00 a.m., and from time to time thereafter to adjust the tax rolls, to hear petitions relating to assessments, to hear complaints relating to home stead exemptions, to hear appeals from exemptions denied, or disputes arising from exemptions granted, upon the filing of exemption applications, and to hear appeals concerning ad valorem tax deferrals and classifications.

Separate lists maintained by the Bay County Property Appraiser of all applicants for exemption who have had their applications for exemption wholly or partially approved or who have had their applications for exemption denied is available to the public at 860 West 11th Street Panama City, FL 32401 between the hours of 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

The lists include applicants for the following exemptions or classifications:
Homestead - all categories;
Certain permanently and totally disabled veterans;
Disabled veterans confined to wheelchairs;
Permanently and totally disabled persons;
Renewable energy sources;
Charitable, religious, scientific or literary uses and additional exemptions relating thereto
Educational property
Property owned and used by labor organizations;
Certain agreements with local governments for use of public property;
Economic development
Not-for-Profit sewer and water company property
Widows and blind persons;
Tangible personal property;
Agricultural property;
Aquaculture property

Any taxpayer may bring an action to contest a tax assessment pursuant to F.S. 194.171
